Cellphone Load Expiration Will be Removed?

As reported by abs-cbnnews.com last July 18, 2012, there is a study of planning to extend or remove the expiration date of cellphone loads. If this will be implemented, almost 90 million prepaid subscribers will be happy. This study was initiated by National Telecommunications  Commission (NTC).

According to NTC, they are still reviewing several factors before implementing this study. But as an opposite reaction of the consumers, cellphone load vendors are not happy when they heard about this report. However, Globe Telecom didn't say any reaction. But Smart are now starting to analyze or study of the possible effects of this to their operations.

Gawad Geny Lopez jr. - GLOBAL BAYANING PILIPINO

ABS-CBN recently announced the call for nominations for Gawad Geny Lopez Jr. Bayaning Pilipino Awards which will recognize Filipinos (now organizations) “who in the face of challenges and difficulties manage to rise and emerge as role models of service in their communities”. Note that Efren Penflorida was one of the awardees in 2004 before he won CNN’s Hero of the Year in 2009. The search is now global. The deadline for submission of entries is on March 15, 2012.

“Where there are Filipinos, there are heroes, and it’s time to honor them.”

With this campaign line, firm belief and an international network of regional teams in place to make it happen, the Gawad Geny Lopez Jr. Bayaning Pilipino Awards is going global this year, the first time since its inception in 1994.

“It is a huge and momentous initiative to reach out to Filipinos all over the world and recognize their collective efforts in serving their less fortunate Filipino brothers and sisters wherever they may be. We are truly excited by this development,” said Fr. Nilo Tanalega, SJ who heads Ugnayan at Tulong para sa Maralitang Pamilya (UGAT) Foundation (translated literally as Relations and Assistance for Poor Families). UGAT, a non-profit organization based in the Philippines, oversees the screening of nominations and selection of winners.

“My father would be smiling right now,” said Raffy Lopez, COO of ABS-CBN Global which oversees the promotion and production of the distinguished award ceremonies. “He started Bayaning Pilipino (Filipino Heroes) with Father Nilo. It would warm his heart to know that ABS-CBN in Manila, TFC globally and UGAT, have expanded their long-running partnership to search around the world for ordinary folks doing extraordinary work in the service of the Filipino people. This is true to his vision and mission.”

The “father” is Don Eugenio “Geny” Lopez Jr., founder of ABS-CBN Corporation, the largest entertainment and broadcasting company in the Philippines. He is known in the industry as the “Father of Philippine
Broadcasting”. The award, which was named after him, began after he learned of a Filipina maid in Hong Kong who got run over by a car in pursuit of saving a child. The award gives recognition to Filipinos (now as organizations) who in the face of challenges and difficulties manage to rise and emerge as role models of service in their communities.

Gawad Geny Lopez Jr Global Bayaning Pilipino is open to all Filipino organizations in the U.S., Canada, Asia-Pacific (covering Singapore and Hong Kong), Europe (covering Italy and U.K.), Middle East, Australia and Japan. The criteria are as follows: (1) Measurable impact: scope and number of beneficiaries with known effective results; (2) Highlight the value of unity/PAGKAKAISA (effective elimination of selosan (jealousy), inggitan (envy), siraan (negative criticism), etc. or has effectively dealt with these either through interventions or through innovative methods); (3) Focused on service and/or an issue (poverty, health, education, etc) as felt either in your respective country or in the Philippines; (4) Transcend regionalism/parochialism; (5) Participatory/people-oriented leadership (as shown in the manner of how they choose their leaders and their acceptance thereof); (6) Promote Filipino values and culture and Filipino heritage.

Deadline of submission of nominations is on March 15, 2012. Regional winners will be announced late May 2012 after a period of tight screenings and validation. The winners will be flown to Manila, Philippines for the national awarding ceremony to be held in June 2012.

UPDATES AFTER THE 6.8 EARTHQUAKE and HOW NEGROS LOOKS LIKE NOW

For those who can still remember, last February 6, 2012, an earthquake hit some parts of the Philippines. That include Cebu and Negros. In Cebu, the 6.8 magnitude earthquake made all buildings to shook. But aftershocks were still felt. In fact, DepEd announced immediately to cancel all class from Elementary and High School. Those people who were working at that time were forced to go home early. Just for an example, all employees from Gaisano, Minglanilla, Cebu directly went home right after the quake to check if their families were safe. Some employers didn't allow their employees to go to work the day after for safety.

During the quake, there were stupid individuals created a rumor of tsunami alert that cause everyone especially in downtown area to panic. Almost everyone were racing to reach the top of the mountains. The fear of the residents of Cebu just went up when the PhiVolcs raise the tsunami alert to #2. But PhiVolcs said that they just did that to encourage those who were residing near the port area.

Negros where the 6.9 magnitude hits, suffers more. though there's no tsunami alert, almost all the infrastructures were collapsed and some were damaged. Streets did escape the trembling of the earth. Some streets were now unable to be passed by for it has too0 much damage. Some bridges were also collapse during the quake.

After the quake, a child was reported to be dead when a collapsed wall drop on the child. Since then, the numbers of those who died were still rising. Until now, rescue units were still digging the soil to recover dead bodies.

Below are some pictures taken from Negros Oriental. All this pictures was shared through facebook

6.8 EARTHQUAKE MAGNITUDE STRIKES CEBU GENERAL SANTOS CITY AND NEGROS REGION

Just a moment ago at about 11:53 AM, a 6.8 magnitude earthquake strikes in Cebu Region, 4.1 General Santos City and 6.9 magnitude Negros Region. Base on an interview, two reports that I was able to gathered. One is the residence of Moalboal, Cebu got panicked and reported that some foreigners went on top of the mountains because they've noticed that the sea level rises. They thought it would create a tsunami.

Second report was gather from Alegria, Cebu. One house there was almost collapse and now standing slantingly. Good thing that the people inside that house manage to run away from there houses. That house was owned by Manlunas Family.
