HOW AND WHO KILLED GADDAFI

Muammar Qaddafi was killed by the fighters of the new regime yesterday, Thursday, October 20, 2011 in his hometown Sirte, Libya after he was cornered in a sewage pipe while waving his golden gun.

“Gadhafi was in a jeep when rebels opened fire on it. He got out and tried to flee, taking shelter in a sewage pipe. NTC fighters opened fire again and he came out carrying a Kalashnikov (assault rifle) in one hand and a pistol in the other.Gadhafi looked left and right and asked what was happening. Rebels opened fire again, wounding his leg and shoulder. He died after that,” NTC field commander, Mohammed Leith, told AFP.

But according to interim premier Mahmud Jibril, Gaddafi was caught in a crossfire between his supporters and new regime fighters and got hit in his head, after he was captured. “When he was found, he was in good health, carrying a gun,” Jibril told a press conference in Tripoli. After Gaddafi was caught, he was transfered from the sewage pipe to a pick-up truck. “When the vehicle started moving, it was caught in crossfire between Gadhafi fighters and the revolutionaries, and he was shot in the head. He was alive up to last moment until he arrived at hospital in the town of Misrata.” Jibril added.

But a videotape aired on Arab satellite channels showed a different statement compared from Leith and Jibril's. On that aired videotape, Gaddafi is still alive and walking but handled by the Libya's new regime fighters roughly after he was captured. Gaddafi was bloodied in the head, face and shoulders and said to be about to cry out.

Aside from Gaddafi, Leith said that Mutassim, one of Gaddafi's son, was also killed in Sirte. He was found by the NTC fighters dead with the ex-defense minister Abu Bakr Yunis Jabar and put them in an ambulance to be brought to Misrata.
