New Zealand Earthquake

A 6.3 magnitude quake shook the South Island of New Zealand and its largest City, Christchurch, last Tuesday at about 12:50 PM local time.

Base on reports, there was 75 people confirmed dead and 300 were still missing.

JP Morgan analyst Michael Huttner estimated that mostly probably, the total damage would be about $12 Billlion. As of this, New Zealand Prime Minister John Key has declared that the quake is a national disaster.

When reports sent out, Hundreds of troops, police and emergency workers rushed to the site rescue the survivors and all affected people. The government even sent sniffer dogs over concrete slabs. Other countries in Asia like Japan, even Australia, United States and Britain rushed in along with military field hospital and workers to help on repairing those that were damaged such as power lines, waters, phone lines in all corners of the City with the population of 350, 000 people.

Police superintendent Russell Gibson said that the last survivor was rescued and pulled out lasst Wednesday at 2:00 PM and no body or survivor has been found since then. Gibson also said that it would be a long day of rescuing but the rescuers didn't lost their hope of finding more survivors.

As of this, Officials told people to avoid showering or even flushing toilets, saying the damaged sewer system was at risk of failing. School classes in the city were suspended, and residents advised to stay home. Residents don't need to worry of their daily supplies to last for the gorvenrment stationed tanker trucks at 14 spots throughout the city where they could come to fill their buckets and bottles, and can support some but most of their basic needs. But officials asked the people to catch and save rainwaters.
